1chipMSX / ESE3 Just like a lot of other MSX users I have a 1chipMSX / ESEMSX System 3. The One chip MSX, released by D4 Enterprise in 2006, is a re-implementation of a MSX2 homecomputer in just one single Altera Cyclone FPGA-chip to implement all electronics (except the RAM) including the MSX-MUSIC and SCC+ audio extentions. The 1chipMSX was released in a limited stock and at the time you could buy a 1chipMSX for a fair price. A the moment the 1chipMSX is available throughout the internet trade and auctionsites like eBay only. Because it is a wanted object, the price is high if you want to have one. Nowadays it's double the price I payed for it back in 2006. So it's a nice gadget to have and a good investment apparently. To be honest my experience with the 1chipMSX is poor. We mainly use it on a MSX Mariënberg clubday because it's easy to transport due to it's small size. My impression of the 1chipMSX is that it is an okay machine. But to get a real retro old skool MSX feeling, working with a real MSX is much better to my opion. The touch of a MSX keyboard and cursorkeys is what I miss when I am using the 1chipMSX. User information for the 1chipMSX / ESE3 you can find on: MSX Banzai!
